At Duinmanege van Poelenburgh, both young and old can learn to ride horses.
For every beginning rider the basics of horseback riding are taught responsibly during private lessons of half an hour. When you have mastered the trot and canter and can steer the horse independently through the arena, you can, in consultation with the instructor, move on to a suitable group lesson.
We offer group lessons for beginners and advanced riders and have a large number of horses and ponies for all levels. Classes consist of eight to ten riders.
Children can begin lessons from the age of six.
When you advance to the group lessons you need to become a member of Riding Association the Poelenburgh Riders. As a member of the riding association you can, among other things, make use of the quarterly passes (these are not available for non-members), you will receive a Ruiterpassport, you can participate at reduced rates in the trial days, instruction days or weekends.
From the age of five (younger is also possible by agreement) children can join our "Gnome lessons". These are group lessons in which the pony walks along with the hand of the parent/guide. During the lesson attention is also paid to brushing, saddling, mounting, etc. This way children learn pony riding in a playful way! These lessons are twice a month, look for the dates in the agenda.
For children who are too young to begin horseback riding lessons, but would like to ride, a pony can be rented that can be used for half an hour of hand walking.
With jumping lessons you can start as a rider when you have the MRB D6 level or in consultation with the instruction. Besides the jumping lessons you also have to take dressage lessons. The jumping lessons are in the summer months in the outdoor arena and in the winter months in the indoor arena.
During the months of July/August there is a summer halt to jumping lessons.

Carousel lessons began as a fun way to practice equestrian sports culminating in a demonstration during our Open Days. Due to the enthusiasm of the riders and amazons, this branch of the equestrian sport has grown into regular lessons. We have an adult carousel group, a Young Riders group and a youth carousel group. All groups have competed several times at divisional carousel competitions around the country.
What does carousel riding involve?
A carousel group consists of eight amazons and eight riders (or six). In carousel riding, the amazons and riders ride in pairs side by side, and in doing so, it is important that the amazons and riders perform various figures neatly in sync. When these different figures are ridden, it is important that the tempo remains the same so that the interplay of the amazons, riders and horses forms a neat and harmonious whole. Figures can be ridden in twos / threes / fours / sixes and eights. The three basic gaits from dressage are applied here; walk, trot and canter and even going backwards. So it is important for riders to have the knowledge and basics of dressage. The many combinations and variations of the carousel figures make it very attractive for the audience to watch.
We have the following carousel classes:

For anyone who practices equine sports, it is important to know how a horse is groomed and harnessed. Proper grooming is important to remove dust and loose hair from the coat and to promote blood circulation. And while riding, it is important that the harness (the saddle and bridle) fits properly and does not hinder the horse's movements.
Therefore, we provide grooming and saddle courses for beginning riders so that you learn how to handle horses in the barn, how to groom a horse before and after riding, and how to properly put on the saddle and put on the bridle. This course is also offered in the starter package.
The youth and adult starter pack includes a manners lesson.
The lessons are designed to learn to read the ponies/horses better and become attuned to each other. An important part of this is becoming more aware of your own behavior, the way you come across, communicate, lead and respond to others.
Through exercises with the horse, you see how a person functions and reacts in everyday life. Horses mirror our behavior, allowing us to practice new behaviors.
An example is when someone has difficulty expressing their boundaries. You can see this in the exercise with the horse. Regularly we see that people themselves think they are very clear, while this is not the case. The moment you practice and discuss this, you can try again. The horse stops immediately the moment you are clear enough.
The lessons include ground work, working loose and mirroring. The goal is to increase self-confidence and to better understand how to deal with horses. All this to make horseback riding a beautiful experience and to take control in the choices you make.
Classes last one hour and are taught in groups of six (children or adults). These classes are taught by Caroline Duine, of Zincaro Coaching. Nothing has to, almost everything is allowed. In this lesson we will not be horse/pony riding.
What other options do we have?
Parent - Child classes
Over the past year, we have coached several parents with their children. Parents and children are closely connected. How fun and nice it is to spend time together with your child, one on one in this way. And how special it is to do this among the horses. Strengthening your mutual bond, working together, looking at your talents and qualities, body language, working on trust, your strengths and most of all having fun together.
Follow-up package to manners lessons
Suppose after a manners lesson you are curious for more, there is the possibility to extend this lesson with a package of three or five lessons. Frequency and group size, we can adapt to your needs.
Curious about the other possibilities ...
For the other possibilities, for example for a leadership training with horses, workshop "What does my horse tell about my behavior?" or a team outing in combination with coaching with horses please contact us.
